This nomination came from our member David who is a foot healthcare professional and along with some chiropody colleagues wanted to set up a service volunteering their time to provide podiatry and general foot health care to the homeless community in Derby. Anyone with knowledge of the homeless will be aware how important foot care is.

£500 from Friends of Derby 500 will be spent on equipment needed to provide the service on site, clinically and safely e.g. nippers, files, scalpel blades, disinfectants, dressings etc. ensuring a service can be launched and delivered safely. The professionals involved will use their own sterilisers to maintain the hygiene standards expected of a clinic.

David has been wanting to set this up for some time and has now made plans with Derby City Mission who provide homeless services to those most in need in Derby. Forgotten Feet are a UK charity who encourage foot professionals all over the UK to set up and run these services, so David will use their format to start the Derby service. Ongoing support, for example donations of footwear, will be set up locally in time to ensure a resilient service of care and treatment in Derby.

Friends of Derby members please feel very proud that your weekly £1 has enabled this very valuable service to some of those most in need in our city 👏🏼👏🏼
